My Scene in Dragonwings

page 95-97, Chapter four

Characters: Windrider, Moon Shadow, Black Dog, Lead Head, Lead Head's subordinates
Setting: In Lead Head's house, in the night
How the scene begins: windrider and Moon Shadow go to find Black Dog
How the scene ends: Windrider and Moon Shadow save Black Dog
The Problem: Black Dog may hurt Moon Shadow in the future

Substitute:
What do you think would have happened if Tiger is the person who catch Black Dog instead of Lead Head?

I think Tiger would beat Black Dog more hardly. Black Dog may hurt more seriously.

Modify:
What would have happened if Black Dog had been timid?

I think Black Dog would beg to Windrider and ask windrider to save him

Rearrange:

What would have happened if Black Dog died before Windrider and Moon Shadow went to save him?

I think Windrider would thought that Black Dog ere still safe. They would stopped finding Black Dog.

Rewritten Scene

I saw Black Dog who looked up, confused, studying the three men for a moment until he recognized them. He looked so afraid. "Tiger," Black Dog said to the men in the middle, "Please let me go. Don't hurt me!" He looked at us, and said, "Windrider, Moon Shadow. Please help me!" Tiger beat him unconscious, "Shut up. You cheap dog." Tiger said, "Ha Ha, I am going to kill him now!"

Suddenly I heard a shrill piercing whistle from above me. I looked up to see Father with two fingers in his mouth. It was a decidedly demonic talent.

I don't think the gunmen would have mistaken Father's whistle for the sound of the police if they had been calm, but of course they were nervous and excited about the killing. The man on Tiger's left turned to run, but Tiger grabbed his arm. "The gun, you fool, the gun."

Dumbly, the young man let Tiger give him the gun. Then the three of them ran like mad for the alleyway.

"Where did you learn to whistle like that?" I asked Father where he leart to whistle.

"Something I picked up," Father said.

"Think you could teach me?"

"Yes, it might just come in handy for you."

Unfortunately, one of them noticed that the alarm sound was produced by Father. He told other two to stop running. Then they ran towards us. A gun sound spread in the night. And there was a real police alarm went off in the night. Tiger shouted at us, "I'll be back!" Then they ran away.

The man took a shot at Black Dog's chest. He was hurt. "Oh!" Black Dog shouted out.

Father crouched and got Black Dog over his shoulders and walked slowly up the steps. I was waiting for him at the top. "Get his hat and things," Father said.

But I was staring up at Black Dog. I was so afraid.

"Listen," Father said, "We must send him to his father!"

I got Black Dog's hat and shirt and joined Father, who had already started to walk toward the alley mouth.

Small Class in Hong Kong

I think small class cannot be worked in Hong Kong successfully, because the main reason that we need to have small class in Hong Kong, cannot really help Hong Kong students.

Outwardly, there are plenty of advantages about small class. For example, Secretary for Education, Michael Suen said that we can improve the quality in learning things. And students will have more opportunities for trips outside; fewer kids to watch and teachers would teacher better.

Towards the parents that their children have great school result, they are very appreciate that having small class in Hong Kong, because they do not want some students who get bad result to make the rate of learning be slower. So they want to have small class in Hong Kong.

Contrariously, parents that their children have bad result do not want to have small class in Hong Kong. Why? They disagree because they want to save their children!

The most important reason that Michael Suen wants to have small class in Hong Kong is more classes can keep schools open! That's the most important reason. But parents think in this way, Michael Suen thinks in the opposite way. So I think small class can not be worked in Hong Kong.

History Assignment

These qualities are to be imaginative, determine what society needs, breaks from the old ways and creative . I think we can learn to determine what society needs in our L.S. lesson and History lesson..We learned the mistakes from the past and we know how to avoid to do those wrong things.

We also learned to be imaginative and creative in our Art lesson. We finished our art work by ourselves. There are no helpers to help us finish our work, but other lesson's work, may have.

And I also learned that quality, full of imagination while I was recite something by heart. Those Chinese poem are so difficult to remember. So I use that method to help me to remember things. I think it is very useful.

History Homwork

The five basic qualities that a good inventor might have are creative, hardworking, talent, fervor and willpower.

I think hardworking is the most important thing of those five basic qualities, because if you work hard, you have 50 percent to pass to be a good inventor. But if you don't work hard, you have no way to be a good inventor.

The second most important thing of those five basic qualities is fervor. People who have fervor always reach their dreams. They can make their dreams to be come true because they are interested on it. It is an important factor.

Willpower is also very important. For example, if you want to finish your homework, you may need to concentrate yourself. If not, you will be attracted by other things!

History Homework

I think Hong Kong doesn't need revolution, because although there are a few Hong Kong people are discontent with China Government, but most of us do not oppose or we can say that, they aren't bold enough to oppose China Government. So I think Hong Kong doesn’t need revolution, because a few people can't control 700 millions Hong Kong people! It won't work! I don't think China Government will let Hong Kong to have a revolution, because China needs Hong Kong to help them in every item. They need Hong Kong's technology to develop their huge country!

Although Hong Kong people lose their freedom, but China really make Hong Kong's economy well. I believe without China to helping Hong Kong, Hong Kong can't develop very well in this recent years. Hong Kong is a part of China throughout. If Hong Kong has problems, China will help us, because both have benefit.

Number the Stars

After reading the Number the Stars, I think fighting is so meaningless. The first purpose of having a war is, to give a better life and living conditions for citizens. But nowadays' wars, they change a lot. They mean nothing. They just bring pain, discomforts and suffering to people. They are useless. Why people like fighting to snatch things? I don't know. That is crazing!

I also think children are innocent and harmless. They don't know how to detest. They just know how to smile, to be happy and to be cheerful. Kirsti is an innocent girl. Although she often brings dangers to her family, but she also brings good luck to her family. I think it balances each other.

I know that, knowing more things, more dangers and troubles. Like Annemarie, she is too clever to deceive her. But also, she is clever enough to know this rule, so she chose to keep her mouth shut. I think that is a good choice!

In this book, I can see how important of friendship. Annemarie and her family desperately help Ellen's family. In this event, it shows the huge power of friendship.

History Homework

1) How did the colonists unite America?
At first, the colonists were not happy with Britain's economic policy. Britain got cheap raw materials and a big market for her goods from the 13 Colonies. To the colonists, such a policy was not fair. They wanted to trade freely. So they started a war, called the Seven Years' War in France. The British government passed some acts so that the colonists had to pay for the cost of keeping this army. After eight years of struggle, the 13 Colonies won independence from Britain, and the United States was born.

2) How did the legislature take part in the structure of the federal government?
There were 100 members in Senate of the legislature. There were 435 members in house of representatives. The Senate stood for the States, and the House of Representatives stood for the people's interests in the States. Congress made laws and could impeach the President.

3) How did the American Revolution happen?
On December 16, 1773, some colonists dressed themselves as Red Indian. They went on board some British ships in Boston Harbour. They threw the boxes of tea on the ship into the sea to protest against the tax on tea. This event happened in the later time. The American Revolution started.

4) Why did the people in the Enlightenment object to absolute power?
The people in the Enlightenment object to absolute power, because the people in that period were educated, and they had new ideas about people's rights, and they wanted to end all the unfair things in society. So they objected to absolute power.

5) Explain one of the British acts that created economic discontent amongst the American colonists.
It happened because Britain got cheap raw materials and a big market for her goods from the 13 Colonies. She did not let them produce things that would compete with her goods. To the colonists, such a policy wasn't fair. So the British acts that created economic discontent amongst the American colonists.

The differences and similarities in the economic and political contexts that the 13 colonies and the Hong Kong colony faced

The similarities in the political contexts that the 13 colonies and the Hong Kong colony faced are, they were also ruled by Britain, and they both had laws, and they have the head of the government.

The similarities in the political contexts that the 13 colonies and the Hong Kong colony faced are, they were also ruled by Britain, and they both had laws, and they have the head of the government.

The differences in the political contexts that the 13 colonies and the Hong Kong colony faced are, British appointed Britain to manage the 13 colonies. But British appointed Chinese to manage Hong Kong colony.

Also, the name of the branches of the government is different. For example, the legislature of the 13 colonies is called "Congress", and for Hong Kong, the legislature is called The Legislative Council. There are some changes you can find on here. Besides that, after the 13 won the revolution, they had their own republic. But Hong Kong colony hadn't her republic; even they didn't fight to them.

The 13 colonies were discontented by the constitution of British. They didn't want to have this law; they wanted to have freedom, so they fought to Britain.
Contrarily, Hong Kong people have less disaffection to the law. There was more peaceful than the 13 colonies.

The similarities in the economic contexts that the 13 colonies and the Hong Kong colony faced are they were ruled by the governors. They needed to obey the governors.

The differences in the economic contexts that the 13 colonies and the Hong Kong colony faced are, the trade in Hong Kong had more freedom than the 13 colonies, because the 13 colonies were disobedient to the governor. So the governor used laws to control them, like "dogs".

How to turn 13 colonies into the U.S.A?

1) - The British government let each colony elect a local council to make laws and run local affairs.

2) - It only appointed a governor to each colony to share power with the local council.

3) - The 13 Colonies did not like this. They feared that British would rule them with absolute power. This became an underlying factor of war.

4) - Britain's attempt to tax the 13 Colonies made them even more discontented.

5) - The 13 Colonies won independence from Britain, and the United States was born.

Experience

On the seventh of March, 2008, our class went to Ocean Park to "study" things. We all were excited about going to Ocean Park!!

After arriving at the Ocean Park, the odd number students would visit with Mr. Woo, and the even number students would visited with Mr. Lee. I am the even number student, so we took a cable car to go to uphill and played the Headland Rides! Wow!
It was so exciting!

I had played Space Wheel and Raging River; I loved Raging River most, because the centrifugal force of it is more than Space Wheel. Wow! I didn't know what word I can explain my feeling. I also wanted to play Crazy Galleon. But we had no time to play on it, so we quickly went down the hill and went to muster. Fortunately, we arrived on time.

And we started "studying" on Giant Panda. I learnt to classify the grade of Giant Panda's excrement. That day, the Giant Panda was very healthy, so its grade is on level two. It was normal. And I learnt that, Giant Panda's eating habit is Herbivore. And it is a special animal. Some specialists discovered that, they ate meat long time ago, but they didn't know why they changed their eating habit. So in their excrement, we could found that, there was some bamboo fiber. I thought it was quite interesting, and I wanted to know and study, why they changed their eating habit.

Subsequently, we grouped together and went to other classroom to study the structure of our human body and dolphin body. It was the part that I enjoyed the most, because I had two new friends, Peter and Deeper.

After the lesson, I needed to reflect on the work of protecting the sea, not just saying, is to doing.

When we were waiting to have a break, I started to talk with Karen that, we haven’t enough time to play the Headland Rides. And the guide, he told me that, visitors always haven’t enough time to play. I thought, he is right, because we always can't balance learning and playing well!

I think I need to improve is, ask questions when you are confused! I have this idea because; Mr. Lee said that, we had to assemble in Kids' World, at 3:00 p.m. But when we arrived at Kids' World at 3:25 p.m., we couldn't see Mr. Lee and other classmates. So we waited them. After five minutes, Hilda called me that; the whole class arrived at another place. In this experience, I don't know who is wrong, but I learnt, I really need to ask myself, what I really know. It is important! So, I hope I can improve myself.

Homework- Video: Beggar

Our group's project is beggars in Yau Ma Tei. We think having an interview with them can let our classmates to learn more.

Before leaving home and having an interview with the beggar, my mother told me to put on sneaker. I didn't know why I must be wearing sneaker. She said, "The beggars are very strange, they may attack you!” I obedient her advised. But in my heart, I didn't think beggars are strange, because they are also people! I didn't understand why my mother said that cold-blooded words.

On the 23 rd of February, before our group was interviewing the beggar who lives under the bridge in Yau Ma Tei, Nathania, Peggy and I went to 7-11 to buy some cakes, bread and water to give to the beggar, because we thought that after giving the food to her, we can finish the interview with her more easily. And we thought she will accept our regard. And I hid a red pocket into the plastic bag that was containing the food. I hoped that red pocket really can help the old lady a little.

When we were arrived her” home", I found that she was talking to her son. And we were so afraid that talking to an unfamiliar old lady. But finally, I bravely asked the old lady to have an interview with us. She answered us quickly. I knew lots of things about her and her son. She is about seventy years old, and her son is about forty years old. They have been living under the bridge ten years long.

After talking to her a while, I realized that she is a humorous woman. She always let us laughs. But when we were filming, she was very conscientious toward the filming. I liked talking to her.

The funniest things that happened during the visiting of her house is her dog's back had a very lovely monkey doll. It was so creative. I liked that monkey doll.

During this interview, I learned that even though poor people, they also have emotions. They also can feel joyful, grieved and embarrassed. So I appealed everyone to help more the poor people, to be more considerate to them and to pay a heartfelt care to them!

On the 24th of February, Jessica, Nathania and I went to Henry.G Leung Yau Ma Tei Community Centre. After went to that Community Centre, I knew that that building is used for helping homeless people and beggars to stay inside when there is a typhoon. But I remember that Leung Ma and her son never stay inside the Centre even though there is a typhoon. I think this is another problem in Yau Ma Tei. Why don't they use the resources that are given by the government? We need to discuss it later.

I think our group's video is great. If we need to improve our video, I think we need to improve our film editing. In our video, there are a few mistakes but we don't know how to handle them. So I want the video be better and be more perfect!

History Assignment

Hi, My name is Francis 1. I was born on September 4, 1494, in Cognac, France. I lived in Fontainebleau. I was the son of Charles of Angoulene and Louis of Savory. And I married Claude who was the daughter of Anne of Brittany. I was taken hostage by Charles V in a war, and one year later I was released. I was very lucky! But I died on March 13, 1547, in Rambouillet.Oh! So, that is a pity. But I was worthy in my life.

People think I was vigorous, sensual, generous and cultivated.

I was a Renaissance politician. In my daily life, I helped people who need my help and have talent, and that talent can assist the society a lot. It helps the society to improve well.

In my whole life, I did a lot of accomplishments, such as; I brought Guillaume Bude a humanist, Raphael, Titian and Michelangelo to his court. They were the famous artists in later time. If I didn't help them, I think, they won't have their careers. I also brought Andre del Sarto to spend a year in France. I brought Leonardo de Vinci to teach.

I also bred Leonardo de Vinci. I freed Florentine Benvenuto Cellini and brought him to my school too. I did lots of accomplishments in my life, really. People in my period all adored me very much. I was proud of myself. I did great things. I allowed the Renaissance to flourish during his reign.

I think I'm the best successful politician in the Renaissance time!

I felt worthy after helping people to become famous people. And I felt regret when I died in 53 years old, which is a golden age for me to develop my career. Unfortunately, it happened. So, I can't help anyone after I'm living in heaven, or hell. But I hope my posterity can continue and succeed to what I did in my whole life.

History Homework

Michelangelo and Leonardo DaVinci are used as examples of Renaissance men because they also contributed some great idea to the later period and they also did lots of famous works that can influence people's thought in nowadays.

Leonardo DaVinci made two masterpieces, The Last Supper and The Mona Lisa. And in his painting, he developed a new painting style that is a dark three-dimensional effect. This style made the chief object looked sharper and more realistic. This new painting style influenced the artists in later time.
Michelangelo’s famous work is he designed the dome of ST. Peter's Cathedral in Rome. It’s the also influenced architectural style in later time.

Their common characteristic is their work also influenced people in later time.

Renaissance men are different from the typical characters in the middle Ages because the Renaissance men's work is more colorful and more hopeful than the work in the Middle Stone Age. In the Middle Stone Age, people’s work only about religion, there was no other theme. But the Renaissance men made lots of colorful and realistic.

Script

Bear: Hi, Teddy! Ai~ what is this building in this photo?
Teddy: This building is The Yau Ma Tei Theatre.
Bear: The Yau Ma Tei Theatre? Is it in Yau Ma Tei?
Teddy: Yes, of course it is in Yau Ma Tei!
Bear: Oh! The building looks really old and small.
Teddy: Yes, you’re right. It’s very aged.
Bear: Then, how old is it?
Teddy: It is eighty-two years old.
Bear: Wow! It is older than me!
Teddy: Do you want to have a visit?
Bear: Yes, of course. I want to visit it!
Teddy: OK! Then, let’s go now.
Teddy & Bear: One! Two! Three!
Teddy: Here is The Yau Ma Tei Theatre.
Bear: Wow! It’s tinier than nowadays’ theatres.
Teddy: Yes! Actually, The Yau Ma Tei Theatre, once the largest theatre
in Kowloon, it is located in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong. It is classified as
"Grade II Historic Building". I think it is a very rare building
in Hong Kong.
Bear: Why do you think that it is a rare building?Teddy: Because The Yau Ma -
Tei Theatre pre-World War theatre in Kowloon.
Bear: Oh! I see. Then, let’s have a film inside the theatre!
Teddy: Oh! You can’t have a film even you can’t go inside! Because the theatre
closed on July 31, 1998.
Bear: Oh! It’s a pity. But why it closed? What makes it closed?
Teddy: Because it gradually lost customers to newer theatre in later time.
Bear: I know the reason why it seems dirty. Because nobody used it and no one
clean up it.
Bear: Do you know how many seats inside the theatre? Do you know the free
about the tickets? Do you know will the theatre open again? Do you know
can we eat and drink inside? Do you know more information about the
theatre?
Teddy? Oh! You have too many questions to ask me. I am confused!

F.2 Weekend Homework

I would feel alarm, helpless and homesick to abandon everything familiar for the completely unknown.

I have a very similar experience in eleven years old when I knew I need to move to Australia and live in that foreign place when I go to a upper form. My mother and father said Australia is a better place to study English than Hong Kong. And I think the other reason why my parents want me to live in Australia is because I was born in Australia, Darwin. But I think Hong Kong is my real home, but they aren't. I felt afraid because I have no impressions to my born place. And I need to afresh adapt my new life and to afresh recognize new friends and the local system. I was afraid about I can't adapt this new life.

And I would feel hopeless because I didn't know much about the culture in Australia. And I think in my new life, there must be tougher difficulties that I need to solve.

Also, I would feel homesick when my all parents stay in Hong Kong and I stay in Australia alone, this feeling is not good. And I would so miss my mother, my father and my sisters.

But after debating with my mother and father, I don't need to move to Australia! And I can still stay in Hong Kong, my real home and still study in Hong Kong! I think Hong Kong is a better place, my own thought! Anyway, this is my special experience!

History Homework

I think our power structure is not fundamentally different from medieval society. It still has a shape of triangle. And on the top of the triangle, the people possess the largest power in the society of Hong Kong. On the contrary, at the bottom of the triangle, the people have the most the smallest authority in the society classes. And it's similar to the medieval society because the people who are distributed to the bottom of the classes, they all have chance to upgrade their classes and have more power.

On the top of our Hong Kong power structure, there is the chief executive Donald Tsang. The second class includes Secretary for justice, Chief Secretary for Administration and Financial secretary. Under the second class, there are 12 policy bureaus secretaries. And on the fourth class, there are 61 departments and agencies. At the bottom of the society, it includes lots of commoners.

But the differences between nowadays power structure and the medieval society is, there is a huger triangle on our Hong Kong society, and it is very unusual characteristic in Hong Kong. And also, in the medieval society, people need to kill the emperor and they even don't need to have any ability! But in nowadays Hong Kong, the person on the top need to have capability.
